Dr. Bruce Cole is a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and served as chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) 2001-2009. He is the author of 14 books and numerous articles. Under Dr. Cole’s leadership, the NEH ran programs including We the People, which encourages the teaching, study, and understanding of American history and culture, and the Picturing America project, which uses great American art to teach our nation’s history and culture in 80,000 schools and public libraries nationwide. Before the NEH, Dr. Cole was distinguished professor of Art History and professor of Comparative Literature at Indiana University in Bloomington. His expertise includes the teaching of American history and civics, and private and federal cultural policy. He earned a BA from Case Western Reserve University, an MA from Oberlin College, and a PhD from Bryn Mawr College.
