Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOC) and YouGov have conducted a groundbreaking survey called “The Annual Report on U.S. Attitudes towards Socialism.” The full report can be found here, and topline takeaways can be found here.
This year’s report indicates that millennials are losing faith in capitalism. Fifteen percent have a “very unfavorable” view of Socialism. Four in ten desire a complete overhaul of the American economic system to correct income inequality. While communism still has a pejorative connotation in America, especially among older generations, younger generations grossly underestimate communism’s impact on the world and completely misjudge communism’s legacy in the 21st century. It is left to VOC to educate younger generations about communism, its impact, and its legacy. We will continue developing our education programs at the high school, college, and professional levels in order to address these misconceptions and aid millennials in reaching a more realistic and honest understanding of communism.
